Every good pop song has a light and dark side. Upbeat synths and dark lyrics. Sweet and sour. Sneak complex subjects in with a spoonful of sugar and you are hooked.
MUNA’s song, Loudspeaker is a perfect example of this.
Floating within the orbit of upbeat licks of The 1975’s Heart Out and the sensibilities of HAIM, MUNA cut out their sound from what has been described them as a “dark-pop” cloth.
The LA trio wash down deeper themes such as sexual assault with addictive choruses and defiant lyrics. It’s pop music for those that don’t want to embrace the guilty pleasures of the full fat variety.
The only problem is that I can’t stop playing this song; good thing they’ve recently released their new album, About U, check it out via the link.
