Once again, another act emerges from Australia – this time, from now solo artist, Jane Tyrell of Sydney hip-hop collective, The Herd.
My initial impression of Wild Waters was something that of surprise. Jane seems to have taken a completely different route from the politically conscious sound deployed by The Herd and instead, puts out an effort that at times, harks of artists like Lykke Li.
Not that this is a bad thing, if anything, it completely separates her from her origins. In the verses her voice is so delicate and at times, it shakes. But the chorus especially comes out of nowhere, reverb driven guitars form the backbone and it creates this moody tension that I can’t get enough of. The final stretch of the song allows the instrumental to really stretch its legs and really finish with a bang.
