Raleigh Ritchie – Birthday Girl

Raleigh Ritchie has nailed it again. Having just released his Black and Blue EP last year, he has continued to be prolific in his musical output with the new song, Birthday Girl.

Using the mellow chord progressions and pulsating synths as a terrific backdrop, he exploits the dark overtone with heartwarming lyricism singing, “What’s in your bag dear? I hope it’s just a kiss”. He details a broken relationship with a bittersweet delivery that makes you feel empathy for the narrator. While his work has been very hard to pin down within one specific genre, this song to me, reminds of artists like Frank Ocean and it shows Raleigh at the top of his game. Like most good songwriters, he waits until the end to reveal the punch-line with a gut wrenching thud. Another flawless song in his arsenal, we wait for more with baited breath.
